The distant history of the Alfredo School is in the personal history of Father Rutinduka Laurent who saw his country, Rwanda, flow into the genocide of the Tutsi in 1994 and Rutinduka wondered the cause of this unspeakable violence. He himself deduced that it was education of his generation that did not work well. The pre-1994 State, Churches, Society and the parents are all responsible for the genocide. They have not educated the people well to respect themselves. They did not educate the people about human rights and the anti-Tutsi ideology penetrated their hearts. Father Laurent Rutinduka saw with his own eyes and heard with his ears how a genocide of the Tutsi was carried out by the simple people on the hills, by the politicians and intellectuals of the country. This has created a major challenge for him: how to take care of basic education in “écoles maternelles” and primary schools in order to avoid all forms of extremism and vagrancy in adulthood in time. This is the distant origin of Alfredo School. Where does the name Alfredo come from? In 2007, Father Laurent told to Gina Maria Fioravanti, an Italian, about his personal history as a survivor of the genocide and his idea of founding a school: Gina Maria gave him the money of her son Alfredo la Rocca Junior who had just died of cancer one year before. Father Laurent bought the land in Kiziguro in the district of Gatsibo and in 2013, his friend named Alfred Gasaza, an engineer from Kigali, gave him 1,000,000 Rwandan francs to dig the foundations of the first 3 classes. On 1/01/2014, Father Laurent decided to give the name of Alfredo to the work he had just begun: a rural school that will teach children intellectual, spiritual and cultural values to build a new society without injustice, corruption or genocide. The school was officially launched on 26/01/2015 and the very first director appointed was Jyamubandi Alphonse with two teachers Mucunguyinka Josélyne and Muhongerwa Justine. Alfredo School Organisation One of his friends named Mudahemuka Christophe and his wife Mukarusagara Clarisse and Josélyne Cyatengerwa and her family joined him a year later in 2016 to support the idea that had already begun.
